The idea for this concept came to me in 2007 when I was attending the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Having spent the majority of my life immersed in Jewish traditions, I had wondered why there was no custom to eat the foods that were mentioned in weekly portions (called Parshas). For example, why don't we eat lentil soup when we read about it in that week's portion? I wanted to have a more personal connection with the Torah (5 books of Moses) portions, and including the foods mentioned in each weekly portion seemed like the perfect way to connect. Additionally, I my goal is to discuss the healing properties of foods that have been eaten and savored for centuries.
I believe that anyone who is interested in the Bible can connect to this concept, regardless of religion or denomination. Additionally, I would love suggestions, and feedback. This is a work in progress and I don't want more years to go by because I am "not ready to jump into a big project." Yes, it will be simple and imperfect and some of the concepts may take me years to add, but each journey starts with a single step, so come walk with me.
